The Aldelman Residence, a mid century modern home designed by modernist architect Thornton Abell and renowned Texas architect O’Neill Ford, hits the market for the first time since it was built in remarkably well-preserved condition.

Built in 1956 and located in Beverly Hills, the home is sited for privacy on nearly an acre of land that was once part of the Charlie Chaplin Estate.
According to a feature in LA Curbed “Ford was friends with the home’s owners, artist and designer Lucy Adelman and her husband, Isadore B. Adelman, who owned a small chain of movie theaters in Texas and Oklahoma, says their daughter, Susan Adelman. She was 12-years-old when the home was built, and she now owns the property.”
Adelman remembers by the time she was in her late teens she knew she’d grown up in a pretty cool house.
Untouched, the residence’s cool factor is still intact.
Today the estate includes the 5,000 foot residence, the original Chaplin Tennis Court, a long private drive to the parking court, pool, studio, and panoramic treetop vistas.
The interiors incorporate high ceilings in the public spaces, and have been designed to house a large art collection.
An impressive indoor-outdoor flow is created with mobile glass walls that open the living spaces to landscaped grounds which display a clean oriental flair, or the pool court.
All principal rooms are on the main level while the housekeeper’s room, studio, and storage are located at the carport level and may be accessed by an elevator.
And while this is an exceptional modernist dwelling Adelman says, “It’s time to sell it; so I’m hoping that somebody who loves it and sees the potential—or who just loves it the way it is—will buy it.”
